GodSon: Ain’t Ridin Like Me

GodSonHow did you get started with your music?
Well, I was always into music but I just never had done it. It had this record store that was right next to our corner store and they had a freestyle session and had the speakers outside so people could hear. I knew I could spit a couple of bars but when I heard the beat and how the people were reacting, I kept on freestyling and 15 minutes later I put the mic down with a reputation as the next rapper from houston.

What are you currently working on?
I’m actually right now working on my album. I have a dj now and I jus completed my latest mixtape titled “615 Wilson Rd.” (That’s where I learn tha streets). The name of my album is called, “I Really Live This” and its a very creative album lyrically and concept wise. I think that the way I come across is going to impress many people, not to mention the things I talk about.

What kind of music do you listen to and how does it influence your music?
I listen to a lot of old school R&B…people can relate to their music. I also listen to rap but for motivational purposes. I feel if I listen to an artist that’s a conscience and creative entertainer, than I have an advantage becuase I now know what he is capable of so that’s how I write my music….kind of like a sneak attack on an audience. So the influence they have on me is to better express myself and my views to listeners, my way.

What’s your opinion on mainstream music today?
I think that mainstream music is not the overview of what’s really going on. Like for example, rap music in the past used to paint a vivid picture….the rappers actual surroundings and things that took place around or to this person. But, today music is for now, most of this music you hear now is not going to be remembered after this year.

What do you like or not like?
I like the fact that music is still needed but I don’t like the fact that when a dope boy rapper talks about dope the whole album, now u have another rapper that think he’s harder (cause in his mind he felt he was in the streets more) he make an album about the same thing. There is no creativity, if I wanted to know about dope and guns and chicks…I would just walk outside.

Who do you admire?
Well, I don’t admire these guys but I do respect their grind….T.I., 50 cent, Eminem, Busta Rhymes, Ludacris, Chamillionaire and a couple more that I can’t think of. I liked them cause they are good business men and at the same time they can end your career with words over a beat. You can’t compete with these guys lyrically and financially, lol u don’t stand a chance.

Why would people want to listen to your music over someone else’s?
Really I wouldn’t want anyone to listen to my music over anyone else’s, I would want them to compare the two. I don’t lie so its easy for me to tell the truth but now a day rappers say things for the “wow factor”….I am a real dude that came from a real situation (partially still in there) and tell it just like it was presented to me…no strings attached. So when it comes to me and another rapper, don’t pick sides…pick the truth….its easier to remember……….
